Ohio Kids Ranked Nationally

Shelby Humphrey & Mari Bickley
Recently, the Naismith National Youth All-American Report updated their Girls 2023 Super 75 rankings and included several Ohio girls.  Ohio’s class of 2023 is absolutely loaded with talent, so it comes as no surprise to use that the Buckeye State is represented on the list. Shelby Humprey (5’11”Post/ 2023/Cincinnati) is the highest ranked Ohio player at 11th, followed by Mari Bickley (5’10”/WF/2023/Akron) at 13th, Jessica Roper (67th) and Makayla Lute (69th).  Of course we’re well aware of Humprey’s and Bickley’s talent, as both players not only attended our spring Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase, but excelled, and are currently ranked among the top 5 in our Buckeye Prep 2023 Top Player List.

From what we understand, the Naismith National Youth All-American Report is a credible source of information for both boys girls basketball, and their staff has actually seen and evaluated every player they’ve ranked.  On another note, although they are not currently ranked, we would be surprised if there are 75 players nationally better than Margo Mattis and Janyah Bohanon!  We’re just saying! Also, it’s interesting to note, the same organization has 3 Ohio-based team ranked among their top 25, including All-Ohio Xpress (8th), Dayton Lady Hoopstars (15th) and All-Ohio (now Ohio Lady Dream) (17th). Congratulations to all of the players and teams who received this national recognition!

Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase Rankings

Omari Peek-Green, Lawrent Rice, Mason Shrout, Bella Ward & Brayden Fogle
Judging by all of the post-event positive feedback we received, the 2018 fall Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase was a complete success!  We were very excited about the level of competition in the gym as well as the team-oriented play exhibited by the players. The class of 2026 got their first experience with the Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase and their level of play was outstanding!  The girls division was also very competitive and many of the state’s top girls were at the event.

Below is a link to our final showcase rankings.  In terms of our criteria, in order to be ranked, players had to have participated in the entire event, including the final all-star games.  Those players who left after day one either were not ranked at all, or their final rankings were affected. In order to be ranked in the top 6, players had to not only make the all-star games, but had to have been selected for a Top 6 Award.  After that, we went with the players who made the all-star games, followed by how players were ranked by their coaches.  In most cases, if a player was ranked #1 on their team, they were probably ranked among the top 10.

With so many talented players, the process can be difficult, but we did our best to be fair and non-biased. Congratulations to all of the players who made our final rankings.  For those who did not, you should use the situation as motivation to continue to work on your game, and come back in March intent on showing improvement.
