Hoopstars Rolling in 2018

The 2023 Dayton Lady Hoopstars are off to a great start to the 2018 season.  Most recently, the Hoopstars finished 4-0 in the USJN Hoops in the Heartland Crossover Championships.  For the season, the Hoopstars have compiled the following resume: AAU Tip Off 9th grade championship; Indiana Blizzard 9th grade runner-up: 8th grade championship Crossover Championship; and Dayton Lady Hoopstars Invitational 7th grade championship.  With a current 17-1 overall record, the Dayton Lady Hoopsters are clearly one of the top 1 or 2 teams in the state in the class of 2023.

  1. Not so fast my friend, they not even close. BEST team in STATE is All Ohio Xpress 2023...theyve won every tourney they played in (always play up) except WPA tourney in Pittsburgh, losing to WV Thunder 8th(who is undefeated this yr). The roster consists of 4 girls who made your Buckeye Prep all star teams....Lasonja Hill, Zy Miller, Raeven Raye-Redmond (Top 5 Award) and Margo Mattes who is one of top 7th graders in country. ALL Ohio Red 2023 would be second best in state, they lost to Express by 20. IJS....lets be real

  2. No disrespect to All-Ohio Express who would get my nod as #1, that's why I said "one of the top 1 or 2 teams in the state..." Both teams have impressive records and are repping the Buckeye State well!

  3. Agree with anonymous, Express is loaded. Saw them play in Louisville this past weekend. DLH pads their record playing in cupcake tourneys. Beating 9th grade teams by 50 tells you all you need to know about their competition. They should stop ducking comp in they own backyard, not helping the kids at all playing subpar teams. I can think of at LEAST 4 teams in 2023 from state that are better IMO. All Ohio Red definately one of them. Mari Brickley, Shelby Humphrey and Triniti Ralston among they horses. Would love to see Buckeye Preps list of top AAU girl teams! Lets get the debate started.

  4. Make no mistake they are a good team but they havent played anyone yet. All Ohio Express is the best team due to the fact they beat All Ohio 2023 by 19 pts. DLH needs to see get off the chitlin circuit and see some real teams.19 and 1 sounds good though.

  5. I've seen Express, All Ohio Red 2023 and DLH 2023 play this year. Express is legit, no question. All Ohio 2023 is good, but haven't done much this year. I would have a hard time giving them the nod as the #2 team in OH. Also, I don't think this is a situation DLH ducking anyone. With the exception of the Hoopstar Invitational, they have played up in all of their tournaments (according to the article above). Once in the tournament, all a team can do is play their schedule. DLH is extremely talented as well. They are the best shooting 2023 team that I have seen by a lot. I know that Express has a great shooter in Mattes (you might want to guard her), but all of these DLH girls can drop the long ball and put points up in bunches. I'm sure that all of these teams will meet at some point. At that point we speak to who is the best.

  6. All Ohio 2023 has lost to West Virginia Thunder 2022 and All Ohio express 2023 and we just had our first full practice this week. Best of all we have no holdbacks!

  7. I guess since nobody wrote about Express or All Ohio, you have to post negative comments about DLH to make yourselves feel better? Anyway, DLH has played up in several tournaments in hopes of playing better competition and can't help it that some of those teams have not been that good. They certainly aren't ducking competition. To imply that Express has played top level competiton would be far from accurate. They played up one grade in a weak Parker Bernard tournament, played their grade in the WPA Bruin tournament (which included a 60pt win?) and played up a grade in the Classic. The competition in their division of the Classic was not that good and they lost by 15 to the best team in their division, which lost to WV Thunder by 17 in the Platinum Bracket final. Anyway, all 3 teams are very good and have high level players. Hopefully, they get to play each other a few times as it will only make them better.

  8. whichever team in the 7th grade is better is a complete waste of time. All three are good but our focus is on skillset enhancement so thats why we want no cupcakes on our schedule. I would rather play DLH and Express every weekend because it would help our girls. Sorry if i offended anyone.19 and 1 is impressive and ive watched three of DLH games and there is significant growth in your kids as i told Josh last week. Congrats on a great start!

  9. All the teams represent Ohio well. For those that don't know, the entire starting 5 from Cincy Pride 2023 is playing for All Ohio Express 2023 this year. Those girls have proven that they are clearly the best group in Ohio and a top team nationally over the last several years. For those that are familiar with this age group in girls basketball in Ohio you know there is no debating that. Those girls are skilled and play hard every game. I have watched those girls consistently beat DLH and All Ohio 2023 by double digits the last several times that they have played them; that is a fact. I know coaches get in their feelings sometimes and make excuses for their team, but just give credit where credit is due and go get back in the gym and work.

  10. Somebody please tell me whos gonna give a dam about which team is the best? Only thing that matters is who is getting better and coaches that always wanna win sacrifice growth and that has been evident. Alot of these girls yall talk about on GREAT TEAMS will be done after high school.

  11. There is NO doubt Cincy Pride have proven they previously were best team.

  12. In response to anonymous #4 (AKA DLH Coach). Nobody said anything negative about DLH, the truth hurts i see. BP HAS written about All Ohio 2023. Xpress hasnt wrote BP to talk about their accomplishments so thats that. Express has played top level comp, beating BOTH All Ohio 2023, as well as All Ohio 2022 which had 3 kids get top 5 awards at BP showcase. They actually WON the WPA tourney(beating WV thunder 2023, good team) in Pittsburgh WITHOUT Mattes. The classic had great comp, thats why they lost a game losing to a great team in B Wright(Tenn) which was undefeated before losing to WV! WV 2022 has been beating people by 40 all yr but beat Xpress by 10. Express wont see DLH because they dont play in cupcake tourneys or AAU. So i guess DLH dodged a bullet there. I see someone is worried about Xpress as they know every tourney they played in(ducking them just like they dodged the Pride). Anyway have fun winning by 60 against nobody. Dont brag about how good you are when youve played NOBODY and people wont call you out on it.

  13. Everybody cares which team is the best, thats why you go to tournaments to prove it....HELLLOOOOO

  14. Parents take middle school basketball way to seriously. Nobody cares who's the best 7th grade teams are (except the parents and coaches of those teams) and it's almost impossible to prove who's the best without actually playing each other. All Rob was attempting to do is give recognition to an Ohio based team. So stop hating on the Hoopsters article that will be read bu some of the young ladies on the team amd just congratulate them. Debate when tjey get in High school since it matters more then and they'll be a little better equipped to deal with all of this negativity. Sad smh

  15. Hellooooo. i would lose every game if it was a guarantee my girls wood get better and be completely ready for next level. There are a whole lot of so called elite girls watching other people play that aint getting better at all!! So save that nobody gonna remember who won in 7th grade. Only thing that matters at this age is growth and preparation period.

  16. Since there is an issue with the top Ohio teams playing each other each year, I have my June 9th & 10th Buckeye Prep Summer Showdown at Otterbein Univeristy. I can add a girl's division and call it the "Girls Top 10 Showdown." I will be releasing girls rankings this weekend and we can try to get as many of the top 10 teams in each division as we can and play some kind of round robin. Could be a great event with tons of exposure! I will build it if you guys will come! There's still enough time to make changes to your 2018 schedules for this new event. Help spread the word and let's see if we can make it happen! What does everybody think?

  17. I betcha nobody responded or "cant make it".....LOL

  18. I invite all 5 top teams to play in the NYAA mini pod showcase tournament June 16th right here in Cincinnati. That will stop all the talk.

  19. All Ohio 2023 is already signed up for NYAA mini pod.
