Buckeye Prep Invitational-Day One Report

The 8^th Annual Buckeye Prep Invitational tournament tipped off on Friday in Columbus, and will play host to 115 trams of 3^rd through 11^th graders, some from as far away as Georgia and Michigan. The annual event has several powerhouse programs participating, including King James, Southern Kings, All-Ohio, Michigan Titans, King of The Court, Queen City Prophets, Ohio Hoopsters, Queen City Prophets, Millennium Fire, Ohio Varsity and many others.  Although Saturday’s slate of games will tell the true story, there were still some very spirited games on opening night.

Brett Lauf-7 Grade Toledo

In the U17 division at Ohio Dominican University, Nova Village got out of the gate quickly with a hard fought 56-52 win over the Ohio Hoopsters. Also, the 11^th grade Hoopsters easily got by the Showtime Ballers 64 to 44. In the sophomore division, Ohio Varsity Blue held off a hard charging OIC Dynasty to claim the 61-55 victory.  OV was powered by Justin Bennett (16 pts) and Tyrek Pugh (15 pts). Jacob Craft was the high man for the Dynasty with 14 points, while Chiante Palm added 14 points. Hidden Gems’ 10^th graders collected a resounding 58-20 W.

Cory Baker-6th Grader-Columbus

The 3^rd grade Ohio varsity squad jumped all over the Ohio Hoopsters, as they coasted to a comfortable 37-16 win.  All-Ohio Red’s 7^th graders took down The Ultimate Force of Ohio on the strength of Brett Lauf’s strong play. Ohio Hoopsters 6^th grade team defeated Dayton Nets/Buckeye Prep by 12 points. The Hoopsters’ backcourt tandem of Corey Baker and Ty Wiley is a tough one. Finally the 6^th grade Buckeye Prep squeaked out a 5 point win over Ohio Varsity.  All in all, it was a competitive night of basketball.  Look for more updates over the course of the weekend.

Revised Tournament Schedule Posted

Below is the revised schedule. As I stated before, I can not and will not make any "convenience" related changes. The changes reflected in the revised draft were caused by dropouts and clerical errors. As you can see from the schedule, there is no room for additional teams nor is there any room for any more Saturday games.  I have to schedule Friday games so all of the teams fit into the available court space. If you are scheduled to play on Friday, you have to be there or forfeit the game. Early morning games are part of AAU life. Make adjustments so you can make your games. 

The official schedule will be posted at ODU (headquarters), so make sure you have someone monitoring the same should there be any changes. Also, before you leave on Friday, make sure you check the website for updates.  Also, makw sure you check the schedule carefully, as it can be a challenging for some people to locate their game time and location. Your team may be playing at multiple locations, so make sure you check that before calling. If your team still has not paid the registration fee, it must be paid Friday night at ODU. Coaches will need to register at ODU Friday night or early Saturday morning before their first games. Teams will not be able to play if the fees are not paid.  Certified checks or money orders should be made payable to Rob Taylor.

7.     Myles Hamilton 6’0 Sr. WG – Lakewood St. Edward – 16.1ppg.  Myles is one of the toughest players in the state. He will not be out efforted. One of my favorites. Would try and dunk on Godzilla. Signed with Kennesaw State.

8.     Marc Loving 6’8 Jr. WF – Toledo St. John – 22.9ppg & 9.0rpg. Marc has extraordinary talent. Long, lanky and skilled. Loving is the best Junior in the state. Committed to Ohio State.

9.     Caris Levert 6’4 Sr. WG – Pickerington Central – 18.6ppg.  Caris is one of the most improved  players in the state. He improved a lot as a junior and made another jump this year. Signed with Ohio.

10. Tony Farmer 6’6 Jr. WF/PF – Garfield Heights – 20.4ppg & 12.8rpg. Tony is one of the best inside/outside players in the state. Really stepped up this year and became a more complete player
