Like I always tell
kids; “you never know who is watching.” During the Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase
last weekend, a scouting friend of mine agreed to check out some of the action,
and to provide me with a list of the kids he liked. He concentrated on the 8th
grade class and provided me with the following list of what he describes as “Fresh
Faces,” “Surprises,” and “Standouts.”

Burton, a 6’10, 320 lb 8th grader, has gone under most people’s radar up until this point. I don’t know how he good he is on the hardwood, but at 14 years old and already 6’10, he’s a kid I want to see! According to his mother, Burton has concentrated on football in the past, but is now ready to increase his basketball activities, which will include his participation in the Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase on March 3rd."

DeleteYes, the smith dad (hoop4u24.com) is trying to do a good thing but whoever he has evaluatung doesn't do the kids justice. Smith has to many ties to the dayton community to be fair and accurate. He also has to much connection to the next level program to be fair. Smith,davis and seban are the best in that area and should all be in the top 30. Storm cook and alec holtrey, mike mckay, shemarie jameson should be in the next tier with ben Harris and ethan bradds being right there with them. After that there is a large drop off. The Jackson kid is not ready yet to compete with these kids In a few years maybe but not yet.

DeleteNext Level.Jackson is tough but hasnt done it against good talent. The City League he plays in is very weak.
I love Matthew Wilcox game. It was fun to watch him play in the Nike city series last fall.

DeleteAnonymous you obviously have not seen the Jackson kid play this year. He game has gone to another Level. I think the Smith Kid from Next Level doesn't get a lot of hype in Ohio from Rob because he has not been to any Buckeye Prep events. Wait to you see this kid play he has distance himself on the national level from all the ones you listed above. I saw him against indy elite and the Hoosier last weekend and no one could stop him...I heard he went out to Portland, Or for the Nike tournament and did the same thing...

DeleteSmith have taken his game to whole another level. He's gotten taller and stronger. For his position and I have been to Buckeyeprep showcases this year and over the years, and the Smith Kid is in the top 2 in the state, if not #1.

Deleteyes, I have seen him play in a very weak city league. Yes he has gotten better but he is still not up with the top point guards in the state. I respect how hard he has worked but there are some very talented point guards in that class. I also believe Smith is the top post in the state with Logan hill behind him.

ReplyDeleteI seen the Jackson kid play this winter ,the can flat out score the ball with a real nice stroke. They say he plays on next level white team. With the kid Storm.they say Brooks put together another strong 8 th grade team.

DeleteSeveral players deserve another look as it relates to the top thirty in Ohio. Several players currently listed has been passed by other players. Jackson is definitely deserving, when you have players listed like Devon Baker and Jaquel Freeman-Parks. They no longer have the quickness advantage. They look like any small guard that does nothing special.
ReplyDeleteOkay guys there is no reason to be talking about a kids parents on here!!!!! Kids have different skill levels and some kids peak earlier or later than other kids. With teams running dribble drive and 5 out the point guard is becoming more of a scoring position in basketball today. Just because a point may score a lot does not mean they are selfish. I am sick of good kids being picked on cuz they work hard and are good. In our society today everyone wants a ribbon, trophy or recognition. It sadden me because a child is more talented or more developed at this age becomes the target of haters!!!!!! The sad thing is the kids know who the good kids are and who are at another level right now!!!!!!
DeleteBaker's Dad and Shaq's Mother are those kids worst enemy. They had a good thing going at the Pilots and allowed jealosy of the Parkers to break up the team. Baker is becoming known for being an assistant and stabbing the head coach in the back with team parents. The sad thing is Von Von and Shaq are great kids. I hope they go to work this summer.
ReplyDeleteWow! Cannot believe that someone is crying about an update on the top thirty in Ohio. This cannot be other than someone whose child or their AAU players not getting the recognition. First of all,go to competitive tournaments, instead of the ones you can run through. Take your child or team to exposure camps. Instead of throwing out kids names, such as Baker and Freeman-Parks, it must bothers you that noone is talking about yours. When that list came out, it was last spring. Get over it. Still at the end of the day, it is just your opinion. Baker and Freeman-Parks are true point guards. That is why several coaches want them. They are unselfish players, and instead of worrying about getting theirs, they are going to make sure their teammates are getting theirs. Quickness still there, great defense, and court vision. So when Anonymous states" they look like any small guard that does nothing special" remember this when you see them on the court. I don't care how tall or big of a guard you are, you better hope they don't guard you. Turnover!!!!

DeleteI must agree that Baker and Parks are pure point guards. Some one is hating which is sad for the kids at this level. Both guards have an awesome feel for the game and is comfortable in their own skin. Neither kid plays as if they need to score. Both kids make their respective teams better. Class is something that should always be present when dealing with yung people. Baker and Shaq can flat out play. Period...

Lastly they deserve all their ranking because they can play. It sounds like someone is hating on young men. Who ever posted this need to work with your own kid and stop hating.
ReplyDeleteWhats up this marcus barton dad all i know is shaq is great young man off the court very respectful and shorty is a true point guard who plays outstanding defense.my son and him compete at a high level night in &night out.at these camps and on the aau circ.rob taylor said it best keep your son in the gym and when the lights come on people will see.you should not have to talk for your child his play will speak its self.pimp
