The acknowledgment of financial sacrifices echoes the reality faced by many families navigating the competitive sports landscape. law firmAyaz Khanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03049090269871790440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4372258102423167122.post-33479328067687016032016-08-16T05:11:03.430-04:002016-08-16T05:11:03.430-04:00Summer camps are so popular and desirable among ch...Summer camps are so popular and desirable among children as this is the best place to be free and independent. And now you are still doing the same for others, specially the spolight on the middle school aged!! I can say I developed more just playing with the collegiates who came home over the summer who brought their training, discipline and knowledge back to the next generation of players. Now don't get me wrong I've seen some really, really talented players, but I've seen very few complete players. AAU/Summer basketball does have it's place, but is it a be all to end all as it promotes itself no, it fills a void for a certain type of school/individual and that's really about it. If you have more to offer than you'll fill that void through other channels.Financial & Accounting Professionals LLC-Jobshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08176886799543082285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4372258102423167122.post-84288464191658601842013-11-14T08:51:38.005-05:002013-11-14T08:51:38.005-05:00Coach Cook Friars Blue Storm, Rob you made some v...Coach Cook Friars Blue Storm, Rob you made some very good points. My son and family have enjoyed the AAU thing, just like your family. My son has devloped some many great friendships with quailty young men. I have done the same along the way. However, high school vs AAU/Club basketball is nothing compared to the middle school level. The difference is so great that I think that there may be a place for winter season AAU/Club play for serious middle school players.
Also a problem seen with all travel club sports (baseball, soccer, basketball, etc.) is often not enough attention is being given to the health and safety of these young players. Overuse injuries are increasing in adolescent athletes that are committing early to a single sport. Adequate rest and nourishment can be a problem, especially during the tournament season. Teams can travel hundreds of miles and play multiple games a day, drinking sodas and eating hotdogs in the sun or crowded hallways. They may not have sufficient time or space to warm up and stretch before games. Organizers, coaches and parents need to take the initiative to improve these problems.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4372258102423167122.post-70032268799967177452013-11-11T16:42:55.066-05:002013-11-11T16:42:55.066-05:00Rob - this is great commentary. I like yourself have done the same and it has worked for us so far and with a son still in high school, if all continues to go as it is going, Lord willing, he should earn a Division I scholarship like my another one of my sons. Parents have to be engaged but also be willing to invest in the development process as well. To me grassroots baseball is a way of life it's more about teaching kids life lessons on and off the court so they are able to succeed later on in life. Anything else is a bonus.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4372258102423167122.post-2890556692220806652013-11-11T11:46:38.771-05:002013-11-11T11:46:38.771-05:00Good info. AAU has improved his skills where he can contribute at a higher level on his highschool team. He is now Captain and has good leadership skills and accountable for his own behavior on and off the court. We know he's not D1 material but he is a solid player who wants to attend and graduate from college.Khrymchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08806872220901185073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4372258102423167122.post-91551487313921779482013-11-11T11:04:23.361-05:002013-11-11T11:04:23.361-05:00Great write up, please post on your Facebook page ...Great write up, please post on your Facebook page so it can be shared with more. One thing that you didn't talk about, or I may have missed is what is driving the AAU Market (that is a whole other monster). I agree that it has it's pro's and con's...great for some, bad for others. You have some really good people and you have the world's greatest con artist. To properly navigate through it, each family will have to do their due diligence of educating themselves about AAU or Summer Basketball. Thx!
