2021 Ohio Player Watch List Released

Seth Wilson, Meechie Johnson, Kobe Buford & Noah Peeples
It's still very early, but the elite in Ohio's class of 2021 (6th grade) are stating to emerge.  As we do for every class, below is a link to our 2021 Player Watch List.  As is the case with every list like this, as kids are emerge onto the scene, we will update our list. At the top right now is Seth Wilson (5'8/ WF/West Lake), who established himself as one of the top players nationally dating back to the 3rd and 4th grade.  A big guard with athleticism and skill, Wilson is a difficult to guard.  Too big and strong for most defenders, Wilson has the ability to get to the cup almost at will. Also at the guard spot is Meechie Johnson (4'7/PG/Cleveland), who is as skilled and dynamic as any kid we have seen in the class in the state.  Although he has a scorers mentality, Johnson can pass that rock with the best of them. Johnson's ball skills are elite, and his style of play is fun to watch.  Noah Peeples (5'8/ PF /Akron) is another good one, and should be considered one of the top post players in the state.  Peeples is a rebounding machine, but he is also offensively gifted. Dublin's Kobe Buford (5'7 PF/Dublin) has been making quite a name for himself recently at several high profile events.  Good lengthy and very soft touch around the basket best describes Buford at this point in his development. We know there are still a lot of talented players unaccounted for on our list, but as we see and evaluate them, they will be added to our list.

  9. How many of these kids do think we will see at 12u nationals? Or are most of them older and have to play 13u.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How many kids where reclassified?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Meech is 13U and a reclass...Seth is 13 and will not be in 12U either...Im interested to see the way we rank kids by age now instead of class. Funny how all these reclasses will be back playing own age again. size has caught up with these 4th and 5th grade dribble wonders...great kids but the game is passing them up with size and proper age

  15. As a FYI...Seth is 12. Just turned 12 on Oct 6. Meechie is 12 also. He used to be in class of 2020. He started school early. I cant speak for them in terms of being at Nationals, but my betis they both will be there. I know my son will be there, and hes considered one of the better kids in the state for his age group. Glad AAU made the changes they did. Now we will see who really can ball. Stop assuming...you know what that makes us out to be. If you dont know...ask.

    1. The great thing about the new rule you will not have to speculate about kids ages anymore. If a kid is the appropriate age his State ID will show it.Then lets see how good these kids are espcially the ones that have been highly touted over the years

  16. Calling kids out by name will not be tolerated on this website! The purpose of this website is to provide a "positive" platform for kids to receive recognition and exposure for their talent. We don't publish negative information about kids and we will not allow others to use this site to further their own personal agendas. We have the ability to deactivate the comment section and will do so if people can't refrain from calling out players and spewing negativity! There are other websites that allow that, but not here!!!

    1. tell'em! These are all babies just doing something they're good at and something they love. we must protect these youths. grow up people & make sure your kids have top notch grades & know how to do something besides dribble a ball! that may cut down on the spirit of envy :) and my son & daughter can ball so i'm not just saying the grades thing because they're not that good.. i love kids in general so i appreciate the check. love a mom

  17. @5:02....I agree 200 percent....no need to bash kids on here....we cannot look back....no one can be considered a cheater as the system allowed reclass kids to play down at the nationals.....moving forward my only hope is that everyone get on board and abide by the rules.it will make the game much better.....the new rule will actually help the reclass kid as well because everyone has to go back to the there age group....

  18. I love the new aau rules no more reclass kids playing down

  19. To be honest, If the kids in 8th grade did not reclass. The kids in the 7th grade would not feel the need to reclass to compete and so on and so. Now that the rule has been changed I think everybody will be happy once it all pans out.

  21. @ NYBL, Nobody has to lose the money invested already, NYBL, BBall, Spotlight, EBC, Nike etc, just follow the age rule and create a special 15u division for the 2019 reclass kids. U just cannot turn 16 before august 31, 2015. Everyone else just play your age under the new rule. I don't want kids to pay the price for what is essentially the fault of the AAU and parents. Nor do I want kids to walk around with the brand reclass cheater on their forehead which discredits their talent every time they're on the floor. Now if a reclass kid scores 20 in the game its questionable. As a former athlete I always wanted to play against the best, the best to me means against people my age or of equal or better talent ( people older). And lastly kids develop because of work ethic and good guidance please stop this reclass foolishness and lets keep these kids on the path of overall success in life not just basketball. I am calling out everyone involved, create the 15u for the reclass 2019 kids and lets see these kids show their true talent at their appropriate age level and up. Nobody has to lose here especially the kids..

  22. This option would work for all tournaments around the nation. no one would get hurt financially and everything would just fall into place. All the kids currently in the system would simply fall in place with a age appropriate team or play up if they wish. this is the only fair option to keep the majority happy, protect kids and bring integrity to the system. This and tournament issued id's for players and background checks for coaches.

  23. I honestly think that the AAU over compensated on the new age requirements. They went from allowing kids to play down, to forcing kids to play up. My kid has an August birthday and is in the correct grade but he has to play with 13u. He doesn't turn 13 until after AAU is completely over, however he has to play the entire season as a 12 year old in the 13u division. I think that is WACK! 12u means 12 and under so how can you be 12 and be too old to participate? CRAZY! I think that I will just skip AAU all together. It was wrong to have to play those older reclass kids all of this time and now it's wrong to have to be forced to play up. PPL will say, it will only make your child better to play up...BS...my kid is very small and should be able to play with his OWN AGE GROUP!!! It should be simple, are you 12 or are you 13? If you are 12 during the AAU event(nationals or whatever) then you should be allowed to play.

    1. You have a valid point i never considered.I know you must draw the line some where but if the cut off is really after the season it really doesn't make that much sense. But on the other hand if your son is born in august, other than the reclassed kids he has been the oldest on the court according to the old AAU cut off date.So now he will be the youngest but nobody will be more than a year older than him.

      Delete
    2. you seemed to be more focused on the cut of date and not the date of the AAU nationals...What aau is doing is keeping our kids from playing against kids 1 1/2 or 2 years older them....the nationals are in July and you say your son will be 12....that may be true but your son will be closer to 13 then he is to 12......nobody should be upset about months, but that's a better solution then years....why would you keep your son from playing aau? he is playing against kids his own age and if he has been in the gym he should be ok because alllll the kids including your son has to play their age...makes for a fair shake for all...

      Delete
    3. I understand that you view it as he will be closer to 13 but the fact remains that he will be 12 during nationals. But as far as being closer to 13 what about in March when he is 12 1/2 and still considered to be too old? He has to play 13u for the entire AAU season, but he will be 12 for the entire AAU season, so how is this fair????????? The aau allowed kids for years to be 2 years older as long as they were re -lassed. But now my kid, who will be 12 during nationals can't play. PLEASE! It's not right at all, and he is in his right grade. You said the right words ALMOST 13. I was taught that ALMOST don't count! And besides is he ALMOST 13 in late February when AAU starts? NO! AAU is forcing kids like mine to play up, PERIOD. He will always have to play kids that are a year older and if you really want to take a close look at it, check out Little league baseball, the cut off date is May 30th. SO WHAT if my kid is turning 13 AFTER AAU is over. How is he too old? Is it 12u or 11 1/2u??????????

    4. "you seemed to be more focused on the cut of date and not the date of the AAU nationals...What aau is doing is keeping our kids from playing against kids 1 1/2 or 2 years older them....the nationals are in July and you say your son will be 12....that may be true but your son will be closer to 13 then he is to 12......nobody should be upset about months, but that's a better solution then years....why would you keep your son from playing aau? he is playing against kids his own age and if he has been in the gym he should be ok because alllll the kids including your son has to play their age...makes for a fair shake for all..."

So basically your saying that its fine for kids who are 12 the entire season to not be able to play against other 12 year olds.....but it's okay for them to play kids that are 13. And of course he will be closer to 13 when the season is over, ARN'T they all closer to 13 after the season ends? FACT if a kid is 12 and it called 12u then he or she is NOT TOO OLD! They are over doing it, punish the cheaters not the kids that have been abiding by the rules. But hey I don't have to worry about it anymore because my child and my money will be elsewhere. Too much drama anyways.

    5. Oh and one more comment....you said that he is playing against kids his own age.....are you not reading the post...he is being forced to play kids who are 13 when he doesn't turn 13 until after the season is over so is 12 or 13 his own age? How uneducated are you?

      Delete
    6. You must have started your kid late because the new rule is based on kids starting school at age 6. Therefore you may have not reclassed him but you must have not let him start on time.

      Delete
    7. FYI: He was not held back. All schools districts in Ohio are different. The cut off for my district is AUGUST 1st. Any kid born after July 31st can not start school until the following year. Also, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to the debate and the comments. No disrespect intended, but they are going by age and not grade any longer. My point of view is why should a kid who will be 12 for the ENTIRE AAU SEASON to INCLUDE NATIONALS AS WELL, be forced to play 13u??????????? How does that make any sense? Neither Travel Baseball, Football nor Soccer forces kids to play up. Only AAU....that's called over compensation, and is not nor will never (Sound like a fair shake to me). They need to do the right thing but forcing kids to play up is as unfair as letting kids play down, no matter how you view it. IMO

  24. You got Seth Wilson, # 1 kid in nation, Noah Peeples, Noah Rittenger # 7 kid in nation and Jaden Hammod, and All Ohio Red 5th grade only ranked 15th in nation, SMH, something is wrong, stop ranking these kids they couldnt even make it to top ten at nationals, so your rankings dont mean anything or are these kids really not that good and you are playing favoritism, just because you are bigger than most kids now dont mean you are better

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So true,I think these rankings are regional anyway.Cause if you look at some of the east coast sites that rank kids Seth Wilson is not even on the radar and vice versa foe some of the east coast kids that are good.Once AAU weeds out the kids that are playing down we can better peicture of really good anyway.Cause Ohio red not crackin top 10 down at nationals is not a reflection on them it is kind of a reflection on the reclass teams that play down to have the advantage

  25. Whether it be age or grade we can no longer sit back and reward anyone or support any system that encourages holding kids back academically regardless if the kid is failing or on honor role at the youth level for any sport. 7-15 are development years for kids, therefore overall development (character, academics, sportmanship, discipline, work ethics, basketball skills fundementals, team work) should be the only focus.

  27. wow...wow....wow.... this is crazy. I love to go on here and read how wacky parents are...parents hold there kids back for one reason, for themselves!!!!! that's right I said it. So they can brag about there kids rankings!!!!! Who wants to repeat 5th grade??? 6th grade??? no kid does.

    1. rankings just tell you who to look out for or who is on top. idk why people think it so serious just to get ranked aau changed a lot with the rules and im glad there is no more reclass kid in 12u. that was stupid idid not like 12 yr olds playing against 14year olds SMH

  28. This is Coach Wilson, yes we did not finish as high as we wanted, however, we played many reclassified kids ! However, if you feel like you have to tear these kids down, I would be happy to oblige you in a game with your kid and his team, and Noah,Jaden ,Rittenger, Mobley, Seth, and Tre will have their walkers I.D. for the game and we can see if they are well deserving of their rankings !!!! In the great words of Billy The Kid "I'll make you famous " PS Make sure all your kids have their state I.D.'s too!
